No. 1 Kansas suffered its second loss in as many outings this week on Sunday in a 76-67 defeat at the hands of rival Missouri in the Border War series. The Jayhawks scored the first points of the game but promptly surrendered the lead and never led thereafter as Missouri in front of its home crowd raced out to a double-digit lead midway through the first half and staved off a late KU run down the stretch.

“The Southeastern Conference announced today the University of Missouri will be fined for a violation of the league’s access to competition area policy due to fans entering the court following its men’s basketball game against Kansas on December 8,” The SEC said in a statement.

Kansas was going to drop from the top spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll regardless of what happened at Mizzou on Sunday. But what happened at Mizzou on Sunday will send the Jayhawks tumbling even further when things update later Monday.

Kansas basketball coach Bill Self gave a shoutout to Missouri head coach Dennis Gates after the Tigers’ upset of the No. 1 Jayhawks. Self’s statement, however, was not about the Tigers’ win but in reference to a surprising gesture Missouri’s coach made at the end of the game.
