The Detroit Lions have hired longtime NFL offensive assistant John Morton as their next offensive coordinator.

The Lions are hiring Broncos passing game coordinator John Morton to replace Ben Johnson, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Morton coached in Denver for the last two seasons.

Here are five things to know about Morton ahead of the start of his first year as Lions offensive coordinator. Morton originally hails from Rochester Hills, and attended Avondale High School. He would wind up playing wide receiver in college, first at Grand Rapids Community College and then at Western Michigan.

Coach Dan Campbell has been looking to fill both of his coordinator openings following the departures of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn to the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, respectively, as their new head coaches. Detroit is set to promote linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator, a team source told The Athletic last week.
