The No. 1 seed prevailed over the No. 2 seed in a match ultimately decided by Zverev’s discomfort at the net, Sinner’s underrated first serve, and a kiss of death from the net.

In total, Sinner has won 36 of his last 37 matches, his only defeat coming against Carlos Alcaraz in the final of October’s China Open.

Keys, born in Illinois and now based in Florida, is the oldest woman to become a first-time Slam champ since Flavia Pennetta, who was 33 at the 2015 US Open.
