Nintendo is playing it safe, and while more details are set to be revealed in a dedicated Nintendo Direct broadcast on April 2, there are undoubtedly areas where the upcoming console could improve on its predecessor.

We've already covered the specs of the souped-up Switch sequel, but I want to talk about the branding and design. In its championing of personality and fun, Nintendo has always stood out from the competition from an aesthetic perspective, but that sense of joyful rebellion feels missing here.

This is a new record-low price for the Nitro Deck, which I consider to be one of the best Nintendo Switch controllers. Even the more regularly seen models that come in GameCube purple or Black rarely get discounted down below $39.99, which is what the other versions are currently sitting at.

For one, Nintendo promised "a closer look at Switch 2" in a Direct video presentation scheduled for April 2. It would be a little weird for that "closer look" to come after the console itself was launched, so a launch before April seems out of the question.

But when it comes to Nintendo, it always comes down to the games. Regardless of whether the Switch 2 has any revolutionary gimmicks like the last one, or even the Wii, there’s an inherent trust that a new generation of Nintendo hardware will bring with it some of the best-designed titles of the era.
